The City of Palm Beach Gardens has seen a rise in daytime residential burglaries. In the past two months we have experienced a couple of residential burglaries here in PGA National. In both occurrences the methods of operation were the same. Entry was gained through the rear sliding glass door.
Sliding glass doors are a point of vulnerability. You can improve the standard door latch with a pin lock, a key lock or place a wooden or steel rod into the base of the track. Sliding glass doors without one of these added protective measures installed can be easily lifted from the tracks.
Most daytime burglaries are occurring when people are at work. Thieves and crooks are knocking on the front door to determine if anyone is home. If no one answers, then the home is burglarized. Due to the volume of traffic in your community with landscapers, contractors, and deliveries etc… It is imperative that whenever you leave your home – no matter for how long – always lock yours doors and set your alarm.
Local Police departments have also seen a rise in the use of rental cars to commit residential burglaries. Criminals believe that no one will become suspicious if they park a new or luxury model vehicle in a homeowner’s driveway, versus a vehicle that is falling apart and does not fit in the community. Remember to report any suspicious persons, vehicles and activity to security. If possible note the tag number of that suspicious vehicle. Being a proactive community will make the most significant difference.
