SCHOOL
Yes, the kids are back in school so it is again time for me to nag you about your speed. There are kids of all ages standing on the side of the road waiting for their bus. With Florida’s rainy summers, it is very easy to hydroplane (skid on the surface water). If you don’t think so, just ask the person who turned from the traffic circle onto Fairway Drive and took out two palm trees in the median when his car hydroplaned around the corner!
MAINTENANCE
ENTRY: The POA will be giving a face lift to the entry monuments and Northlake Blvd wall. The Board was hoping to re-design the main entry to more closely match the PGA Resort but funds are not available so painting will have to “hold us over”. A more current color scheme is planned and we hope you will be pleased with the results
STREETS: Northern Palm Beach County Improvement District will soon be re-paving Tournament Blvd and the POA will be paving General Drive. To those who regularly drive on General Drive, thank you for your patience – I know the road surface is a mess. The POA is planning to pave before the beginning of November but we don’t yet have a date for Tournament Blvd. Please watch PGA TV channel 63 for info and updates.
REMINDERS ABOUT CRIME
We recently had an incident where a resident was followed home and confronted by three individuals who followed her home in their car. Two of them approached her asking for directions; the third demanded her valuables. The newly installed cameras at the gates were very helpful so we are hopeful that the police will soon find those involved. This situation ended safely but it should be a wake up for EVERYONE, especially females alone. Please be aware of your surroundings and if you think someone is following you in a car, don’t drive to your house – take a trip around PGA and call the police or security from your cell phone. If you are on foot and you are approached, get into your car or your house (who cares if you look silly – at least you’ll be a safe silly person!).
Because of the economy, crime everywhere is on the rise and you should be more aware than ever that you need to lock your car and your home. Use your home alarm system and, as stated above, be aware of your surroundings! PGA National residents are fortunate that the crime rate is very low but you are not exempt. Please don’t leave valuables in your car; don’t leave your garage door open; don’t wear that 10 karat diamond to buy groceries or pump gas; pay attention to who is paying attention to you. If you have a garage, pull into the garage and close the door before you get out of your vehicle. Set your alarm on your house and if you don’t have motion detectors or glass break sensors, have them added to your system. If you are planning to be out of town, you can arrange for a perimeter check of your home by notifying Wackenhut and asking them to implement the service for the dates you will be gone. Discontinue the newspaper delivery and set your interior lights on timers (you can buy them at any hardware store and they are simple to operate – just plug them in and set the dial!).
STORMS
Although I won’t use the “H” word, I will remind you that September is peak storm season! If you don’t already have supplies on hand, stock up now. What to do before, during and after a storm, as well as a list of suggested items you should have is available at the POA office or on this website.
A BUSHEL AND A PECK AND A HUG AROUND THE NECK
If you are the kind of person who just wants to be an ole cranky britches, don’t read this. To the rest of you: Thanks for being so courteous when contacting the POA. We have a staff of only four people and we do our best to assist whenever possible. Many calls we receive are for things that are not part of the POA’s responsibility but we still do whatever we can to find the right department or person to assist you. When someone asks nicely and is friendly it is a pleasure to go the extra mile and I just wanted to tell you thanks for your patience and kindness! We received great support on the “comment/suggestion” form in the last issue and thank you for taking the time to give us your opinions and suggestions.
